Italian is the language she thinks in and English the one she works in, and the difference between them disappears somewhere in the first ten minutes. Twenty-six years have not taught her to hurry, and she has yet to glance at the clock on anybody's nightstand. Evening arrivals book sixty minutes and then wish they had not, having discovered that the travelling only leaves the body somewhere in the second half. The neighbourhood closes early and stays closed; she keeps her own hours, which tend to start about the time the last arrivals clear passport control.

On WhatsApp, naming Beatrice, the hotel, the room number, the hour and how long. If the hotel is at the airport, say so.
If she is free for that hour we come back with a time. If she is not, we say so rather than sending somebody else in her place.
Payment on arrival: cash in any major currency at the day's rate, card, or crypto. The hour starts when the door closes.
